The DA – Bureau Soils and Water Management (BSWM) – National Soil and Water Resources Research and Development Center for Highland Pedo-Ecological Zone (NSWRRDC HighPEZ) successfully conducted the “Capability Building on the Enhancement of Soil and Water Conservation Technologies in the Highlands” on June 23โ25, 2026, for the 38 members of the BLISS Lingi-on Multi-Purpose Cooperative in Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon.
The three-day activity aimed to enhance the knowledge and skills of corn farmers on sustainable farming practices, soil and water conservation technologies, and climate-resilient agricultural approaches suitable for highland areas. Through a series of lectures and interactive discussions, participants gained valuable insights on the importance of conserving soil and water resources to ensure long-term agricultural productivity and environmental sustainability.
Resource Speakers from NSWRRDC HIGHPEZ facilitated discussions on various topics including: (1) Soil and its Importance to Agriculture; (2) Soil Conservation Technologies for Highland Areas; (3) Review on the Construction and Use of A-Frame and T-Frame for contour establishment; (4) Rainwater Harvesting Technologies in the Highlands; (5) Organic Agriculture in the Philippines and BSWM Programs; (6) Vermicomposting and Vermitea Production; (7) Judicious Use of Chemicals and Herbicides; (8) Natural Control of Insects, Pests, and Diseases; and (9) Preparation of Plant Nutrients.
The activity provided farmers with practical knowledge and techniques that can be applied directly to their farming operations, helping them improve soil health, conserve water resources, reduce production costs, and promote environmentally sound agricultural practices. Participants actively engaged in the discussions and shared their experiences and challenges in managing their farms, fostering a productive exchange of knowledge and ideas.
Through this initiative, DA-BSWM NSWRRDC HIGHPEZ continues its commitment to empowering farming communities by promoting sustainable land management practices and strengthening farmers’ capacities to adapt to the challenges of climate change while enhancing agricultural productivity in the highlands.
