Great days ahead for Tuburan’s mushroom and vegetable growers as BSWM, through the Soil and Water Resources Research Division (SWRRD), rolls out an intensive hands-on training and capacity-building, focusing on the BioSMS Soil Conditioner Technology, on August 14, 2025.

The training was attended by members of the Cebu Province Mushroom Growers’ Agriculture Cooperative, Paglaum Mushroom Association, Montelagre Mushroom Association, PWD Mushroom Association, Makugihon Mushroom Association, Gimamaa Mushroom Association, Colonia Mushroom Association, Lantawan Homes Integrated Workers Association, Brgy. Antipolo United Farmers Association, Fortaliza Farmers Association, and Pestales Agriculture Cooperative.

Stakeholder representatives also came from the Provincial Agriculture Office – Cebu City, Municipal Agriculture Office- Tuburan Cebu and the Participatory Guarantee System (PGS)-Sugbo.

Dr. Karen S. Bautista, SWRRD Division Chief, delivered an Inspirational Message alongside Tuburan Municipal Agriculturist Mr. Kent Marcial Catubis and Agriculture Consultant and former councilor Mr. Ray Matthew Laurel.

In the technical sessions, Senior Science Research Specialist Ms. Vicky T. Dimaano discussed Retooling for Mushroom Production and delivered a lecture on Liquid Organic Plant Supplements (LOPS). Senior Science Research Specialist Ms. Jacqueline S. Rojales led a discussion and hands-on training on BioSMS Soil Conditioner. Science Research Specialists Mr. Jerry Paul P. Arciaga and Ms. Digna R. Allag provided demonstrations on preparing LOPS – Indigenous Microorganisms (IMO) and Oriental Herbal Nutrient (OHN), while Mr. Gian Aquino, Project Development Officer II, conducted a socio-economic interview with farmer cooperatives. The Program concluded with an inspiring Closing Message from Ms. Dorothy Degula, Chairperson of the Cebu Province Mushroom Growers’ Agriculture Cooperative.

Supported by the National Soil Health Program, this initiative focused on educating mushroom growers on the importance of maintaining soil health by utilizing BioSMS soil conditioner in the province. || Via Joann O. Allas, SWRRD (KSB/VTD, SWRRD-RPNS)
