In preparation for the full implementation of the GEF-7 Landscape Project in 2026, the Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Soils and Water Management (DA-BSWM), through the Soil Conservation and Management Division (SCMD), conducted a series of Coordination Meetings and Project Updates with key regional and local partner institutions in Northern Mindanao.

The activity aimed to present updates on the project and strengthen coordination with partner agencies to ensure alignment of implementation strategies, governance arrangements, and collaborative actions within the Cagayan de Oro River Basin landscape.

Coordination meetings and visits were conducted with several partner institutions, including the Local Government Unit of Iligan City, Local Government Unit of Cagayan de Oro City, the Provincial Local Government Unit (PLGU) of Bukidnon, National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) Region X, NCIP Bukidnon, the Cagayan de Oro River Basin Management Council (CDORBMC), the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region X, and the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) Bukidnon.

The discussions focused on strengthening institutional collaboration among national agencies, local government units, Indigenous Peoples institutions, and river basin stakeholders. These engagements are essential to ensure coordinated implementation of Sustainable Land Management (SLM) and Biodiversity-Friendly Agricultural Practices (BDFAP) within priority landscapes.

The GEF-7 Landscape Project, titled “Securing Long-Term Sustainability of Multi-functional Landscapes in Critical River Basins of the Philippines”, is funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and implemented by DA-BSWM, with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The project aims to promote sustainable landscape management, enhance ecosystem resilience, and contribute to the country’s Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN) targets.
