The DA – Bureau of Soils and Water Management (BSWM) kicks off the World Soil Day 2024 celebration with the theme βCaring for Soils: Measure, Monitor, Manage.β This theme sets the stage for the two-day Technical Sessions covering three main topics: Measure, Monitor and Manage.
On December 2, 2024, the Laboratory Services Division (LSD) hosted the day one session focusing on MEASURE, held through a hybrid format at the BSWM Convention Hall, online via Zoom, and was simultaneously broadcasted live via the BSWM Official Facebook Page.
The event was officially opened by Dr. Dante E. Margate, OIC and Chief of the Soil Survey Division, on behalf of Director Gina Parde-Nilo, Ph.D. Dr. Margate highlighted the importance of raising awareness in promoting the use of accurate data for sustainable management.
Four topics were discussed during the MEASURE session: (1) ISO 17025:2017 Awareness Training (2) Guidelines to Interpretation of Soil and Water Test Results, (3) Guidelines for Fertilizer Recommendation (4) Soil Organic Matter as the backbone of Soil Health. With these efforts, the DA-BSWM reaffirms its commitment to contribute to the goal of securing food and nutrition through healthy soils.
A total of 205 participants joined online via Zoom and FB live, while 70 attended onsite at the BSWM Convention Hall.
This Training session is an accredited Continuing Professional Development (CPD) program offering 4 CPD units for Registered Chemists, Chemical Technicians, and Agriculturists. The objective of these Technical sessions is to create a comprehensive approach to soil health and management.
Everyoneβs participation is vital in raising awareness and advocating for soil sustainability, improving soil monitoring and management systems, fostering collaboration, and enhancing capacity building among stakeholders.
Together, let us continue to work hand in hand in caring for our Soils!
