In a concerted effort to promote sustainable farming practices, the Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Soils and Water Management (DA-BSWM), through its Soil Conservation and Management Division (SCMD), successfully conducted a Topographic Survey for the Sustainable Land Management (SLM-Corn) Project from February 17 to 20, 2025, at Barangay San Dionisio II, Nagtipunan, Quirino

This initiative was made possible through the collaboration between DA-BSWM, represented by Ms. Jenielyn May B. Cornes, Engr. Josephroel Guillermo, Ms. Elvie Saรฑo, and the DA-Regional Field Office II (DA-RFO II), represented by Agricultural Program Coordinator Officer (APCO – Quirino) Mr. Mark Luis C. Tega. Additional support was provided by the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist of Quirino, led by Provincial Agriculturist, Mrs. Florence C. Mangoba, and the Municipal Local Government of Nagtipunan, represented by Municipal Agriculturist, Mrs. Hedie Arsenia R. Marquez.

The activity was part of the Sustainable Land Management Project, which aims to empower farmers by improving their productivity, resilience, self-sufficiency, and market competitiveness. This project focuses on enhancing farm and corn productivity in sloping, corn-based areas. It provides farmers with the knowledge and skills to implement effective appropriate soil conservation practices and technologies. In turn, this will contribute to sustainable agriculture and increased farm income.

The collaborative effort highlights the shared commitment of all partner agencies to protect natural resources through sustainable land management and improve the lives of local farmers. Stakeholders are optimistic that the project will bring lasting benefits, not only to individual farmers but also to the broader community.

The BSWM, headed by Director Gina Parde-Nilo, Ph.D. and Assistant Director Denise A. Solano, ensures effective implementation on its initiatives for the Sustainable Land Management to further uplift the lives of the farmers.

The SCMD continuously provides leadership in the conservation and management of soils as vital agricultural resources for sustainable agricultural production and rehabilitation of degraded uplands and hillylands. Engr. Eduardo V. Alberto is currently the Division Chief of the SCMD.
