The DA-Bureau of Soils and Water Management (DA-BSWM), through the Soil Conservation and Management Division (SCMD), carried out the monitoring of established Sustainable Land Management Exemplar Sites (SLMES) under the Sustainable Land Resource Management Approach (SLRMA) Project in four different sites in Tapaz, Capiz (Apero, Cristina, Agcococ, and Candelaria). This weeklong monitoring activity was successfully done from May 6 to 8, 202,5, by technical staff from SCMDโEngr. Rogelio P. Creencia, Engr. Jenefer B. Dadivas, Engr. Jethro M. Miรฑano, and Engr. Nico E. Villafuerteโalongside representatives from LGU Tapaz, Ms. Rachelle Ceralvo, and Mr. Lumar Pardola.

The activity provided a platform for partner farmers in Tapaz, Capiz, to share their experiences and the positive outcomes resulting from their continued commitment to the project. Even after the project’s official end in 2023, farmers in Tapaz, Capiz, have continued the adoption of SLM technologies and practices introduced through the SLRMA Project. In addition, the LGU Tapaz is currently integrating SLM technologies into its programs and policies, which include initiatives like the continuous conduct of training on contour farming, expansion of SLMES, and promoting the adoption of SLM technologies through collaborations with various stakeholders. Before the field activities commenced, a courtesy visit was made to Engr. Jewel Von Limsiaco, Engineer IV of the Regional Agricultural Engineering Division (RAED), DA-RFO VI, and Ms. Jhel Giner, Officer-in-Charge of the Tapaz Municipal Agriculture Office.

The SLRMA is a 5-year Research and Development (R&D) Project implemented by the BSWM under the National Corn Program (NCP) in collaboration with selected DA – DA-Regional Field Offices and Local Government Units (LGUs) to sustain corn production in sloping areas while protecting the soil resources. The DA-BSWM, under the leadership of Director Gina Parde-Nilo, Ph.D., and Assistant Director Denise A. Solano, continues to uphold its commitment to conserving the country’s soil and water resources through sustainable land management practices and initiatives, such as the SLRMA Project.
