The Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Soils and Water Management (DA-BSWM), through the Compost Production Implementation Team (CPIT), successfully conducted the inspection and acceptance of 32 Small-Scale Composting Facility (SSCF) units across the provinces of Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga del Norte, and Zamboanga Sibugay in Region IX. This important activity took place from February 17-21, 2025.

The beneficiaries of these SSCF units include various Farmer/Cooperative/Associations (FCAs), State Universities and Colleges (SUCs), Farm Schools, Local Government Units (LGUs), and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), who will benefit greatly from this initiative to enhance sustainable farming practices in the region.

A dedicated team, consisting of technical evaluators from the CPIT, namely Engr. Elizalde I. Escat II, Engr. Romelyn G. Bergantiรฑos, and Engr. Dezerie L. Principe, as well as Alternate Property Officers (APOs) Mr. Jaime Pascual, Mr. Jose Pepito Espinili, and Mr. Roy Bercero, conducted the inspection and acceptance activities. The CPIT regional staff, including Mr. Paul Bryan Pabillaran, Mr. Daryll Jay Dulay, Mr. Ronebert Mangangot, and Ms. Babylen Alan, also played key roles in ensuring the success of the activity.

We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office IX (DA-RFO IX) and the LGUsthrough the Municipal Agriculture Offices (MAOs) for their continuous support and assistance in establishing these SSCF units. Your dedication and cooperation are vital to the success of this initiative.

Each unit of SSCF includes the following components: one (1) biomass shredder machine, two (2) vermicompost tea brewers, and fifteen (15) kilograms of compost worms (African Night Crawler).
