The Water Resources Management Division (WRMD) of the Bureau of Soils and Water Management (BSWM) conducted a monitoring and assessment visit for the ongoing construction of the Matampay Small Water Impounding Project (SWIP) in Brgy. Matampay, Munai, Lanao del Norte on March 11-13, 2025.

The monitoring team consisted of WRMD staff; Engr. Erwin B. Renos, Engr. Rogelio B. Cuime Jr., Engr. Excelso L. Liberato Jr., Mr. Julio T. Turaja Jr., and Mr. Justine Jay E. Rabino evaluated the project’s progress and compliance with the approved plans and specifications. Their assessment included a survey of the ongoing excavation, verification of excavation depths, and evaluation of construction quality to ensure proper site implementation and structural stability. Orientation and social preparation for the community and farmer-beneficiaries of SWIP were also done. Once completed, the Matampay SWIP will provide irrigation to a 40-hectare rice service area, directly benefiting the Matampay Munai Alliance Farmers Association.

To strengthen coordination for project implementation, the team conducted courtesy visits to key stakeholders at the regional, provincial, and municipal levels. Meetings were held at DA-Region 10 in Cagayan de Oro City, the Provincial Agriculture Office (PAO) of Lanao del Norte, and the Municipal Government of Munai to discuss project coordination and ensure smooth implementation.

This initiative under BSWM’s Locally-Funded Project aligns with the agency’s mandate to conserve and manage the country’s soil and water resources. Led by BSWM’s Director Dr. Gina Parde-Nilo and Assistant Director Denise A. Solano, and with the guidance of WRMD Chief Engr. Diosdado M. Manalus, the Matampay SWIP is expected to enhance irrigation access and contribute to sustainable agricultural development, ensuring efficient water resource utilization for the benefit of local farmers and communities.
