Alabang, Muntinlupa โ The Bureau of Soils and Water Management (DA-BSWM) turned over last April 5, 2024, the Small-Scale Composting Facility (SSCF) to the officials of the Lyceum of Alabang (LOA). The turnover purpose is to enhance the sustainable and organic practices of the 1st Schoolโs Farm in Metro Manila.
During the event, the DA-BSWM Assistant Director and Youth Committee Chairperson Denise N. Araullo-Solano, expressed the importance of integrating sustainable practices into educational institutions. She also emphasized the inclusivity of the event not just for youth but also for senior citizens and women. Furthermore, DA-BSWM Senior Citizen and Person with Disability Chairperson Ms. Angelita Marcia and DA-BSWM Gender and Development Focal Person Ms. Cathlyn Joy P. Dela Torre delivered their messages as they supported the words of DA-BSWM Assistant Director Araullo-Solano on the inclusivity for all ages and genders of the DA-BSWMโs SSCF Project.
Similarly, Dr. Danilo V. Ayap, President/CEO โ Chairman of the Board of the Lyceum of Alabang conveyed gratitude to the DA-BSWM for the underscored educational value of the SSCF as it is aligned with the Lyceum institutionโs mission to provide world-class education and training through high-end facilities, advanced technology, and equipment.
Part of the program is to impartment knowledge on the Small-Scale Composting Facility, Mushroom Production and Rapid Soil Test Kit. DA-BSWM Technical Staff are Ms. Janice C. Castro, Engr. Troy R. Espiel, Engr. Alresty S. Mationg. Ms. Jacquline S. Rojales, Ms. Vicky T. Dimaano, Ms. Elisha Jean Somosa, Ms. Mary Joy Gumangan and Ms. Aurora M. Manalang.
The Muntinlupa Councilor in the person of Mr. Jedidiah R. Presnedi, commended the partnership between the DA-BSWM and Lyceum of Alabang, highlighting its potential impact on the local community that can be an inspiration to other schools and communities. The Director of National Service Training Program LTC Jerson N. Napat (INF) PA (RES) also delivered his closing message as he highlighted the educational and environmental significance of the turnover ceremony.
In the afternoon, the Lyceum of Alabang showcased the talent and skills of the Reserved Officersโ Training Corp (ROTC) and the improvement of the Schoolโs Farm from the inauguration last October 27, 2023.
The SSCF is composed of 1 Shredder Machine, 15 kilograms of African Night Crawlers, and a unit of Vermi-tea Brewer, which is designed to efficiently convert organic waste into nutrient-rich compost. This eco-friendly collaboration aligns with the commitment of both DA-BSWM and Lyceum of Alabang to reduce waste, and promote soil fertility, and sustainable agriculture in Metro Manila.
