As part of its 72nd Founding Anniversary, the Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Soils and
Water Management (DA-BSWM) kicked off the Sportsfest dubbed as the Gina P. Nilo Cup 2023.
This activity which was spearheaded by the host – Geomatics and Soil Information Technology
Division (GSITD) – was held today, 17 April 2023, at the DA-BSWM Patio.

The DA-BSWM officials and employees convened in groups of Blue Team (Director’s Office-
Administrative and Finance Units and Compost Production Implementation Team), Yellow Team
(Soil and Water Resources Research Division, and the National Soil and Water Resources
Research and Development Centers for Lowland-Upland, Hillyland, and Highland Pedo-
Ecological Zones), Green Team (Water Resources Management Division and Laboratory Services
Division), and Red Team (Agricultural Land Management and Evaluation Division, Soil
Conservation and Management Division, and Soil Survey Division). The Gina P. Nilo Cup 2023 is
an opportunity for the employees to come together in friendly competition and start building
even stronger cooperation, collaboration, and convergence in all our activities.

In the celebration of the activity, GSITD Chief Mr. Bertolio P. Arellano delivered his Opening
Message and thanked everyone for their support and cooperation. After this, the ceremonial
lighting of the Digital Torch was spearheaded by Director Gina P. Nilo and Assistant Director
Denise A. Solano.

This was followed by an Inspirational Message from Director Gina P. Nilo to encourage
everyone as we conduct the 2023 Sportsfest activities.

The Kick Off and Sports Committee Chair Mr. Mark Anthony Posilero led the Oath of
Sportsmanship to guide each of the competing individuals with the prescribed rules.
To highlight the event, Director Nilo had the Ceremonial Ball Shooting, signifying the
commencement of the games – Basketball Shootout, Volleyball, Online Games (Mobile Legends
and Tertris), and various parlor/fun games.

Making the activity even more special was the appearance of Senator Cynthia A. Villar who
willingly posed with the DA-BSWM employees in the photo opportunities.

Another event that highlighted the Kick Off was the BSWM Mr. and Miss Sportsfest titled, “Mr.
and Ms. Brawns, Brains, and Beauty.” Representatives from the Blue, Yellow, Green, and Red
Teams participated and made the competition really tight with their beauty, wit, and bearing.

Adjudged as the 2023 Mr. and Miss Sportsfest were from the Director’s Office – Administrative
and Finance Units and Compost Production Implementation Team – Miss Liezel Almase and Mr.
Alresty Mationg.

From today, the Sports Fest is set to end on 25 April 2023. The DA-BSWM’s Founding
Anniversary Celebration will culminate on 05 June 2023.
