In line with its goal of Reviewing the process and accomplishments of Mapping of the High Value Crops (HVC) Production Areas and other Agricultural Land Management and Evaluation Division (ALMED) Projects; Harmonizing the process of land suitability evaluation; and Strengthening partnership and unifying actions between and among its staff, the ALMED headed by its OIC Ms. Jovette Tenorio-Almeda, conducted its Project Assessment: Mid-term Review and Assessment of Mapping of HVC Production Areas and other CY 2024 on 22-26 July 2024, at the Development Academy of the Philippines Conference Center.
The first two days of the activity focused on the Quality Management System (QMS) Awareness Training; Reports on the High Value Crops (HVC) Productions Areas per Team; Presentation of First Semester Accomplishment on the Mapping of HVC, Land Use Assessment for Potential Agri-industrial Development and Investment (LUAPADI) and Integration, Strengthening and Mainstreaming the Evaluation Mechanism on Land Use Reclassification (SEMLUR) and Soil Health, and Adaptive Balanced Fertilization Strategy (ABFS) and Farm Productivity.
During the third day, Representatives from the Personnel Section, Planning and Monitoring Section, Budget Section, Procurement Management Section, Property Management Unit, and Information Unit – Ms. Nancy De Sagun, Ms. April Mae Casas, Ms. Jean Anne Abaca, Ms. Janine Montalla, Mr. Jefferson Laluon, and Ms. Ara Krizele Alcoriza, respectively – provided administrative reminders to the ALMED staff. A time was also allotted for an Open Forum in order to answer the administrative-related queries and listen to the suggestions of the participants.
As part of the agency’s continual improvement, the ALMED staff, along with representatives from the Technical Divisions and Research Centers have undergone Capacity Enhancement through the Retooling of the BSWM Personnel on Land Suitability Evaluation, with the Resource Speaker from the University of the Philippines Los Baños, Professor Rodrigo B. Badayos, Ph.D. This activity focused on the principles and procedures related to land suitability evaluation.
The ALMED ensures to be more capacitated moving forward, as it attains its mandate through the guidance of the DA-BSWM Management headed by Director Gina P. Nilo, Ph.D. and Assistant Director Denise A. Solano on the formulation and adoption of national agricultural land use planning framework to guide policy makers and local government units on appropriate land use allocation and land development through applications of sustainable agricultural land management principles and thereby ensure a secure and sustainable production base.
