The Department of Agriculture- Bureau of Soils and Water Management (DA-BSWM) and The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) – Philippines are currently conducting an Inception Workshop today – May 28, 2024, for the Global Environment Facility – 8th Cycle (GEF-8) Project under the Food Systems Integrated Program (FSIP) entitled “Transforming Agricultural Landscapes in Island Ecosystems and Key Biodiversity Areas Towards Sustainable Food Systems and Climate Resilient Communities.” The activity is conducted at the Luxent Hotel, Timog Avenue, Diliman, Quezon City.

The Workshop convened technical and policy experts from various agencies of the DA and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), as well as representatives from State Universities and Colleges (SUCs), research institutions, the private sector, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), and other stakeholders who shared their experience and expertise.

The event was graced by DA Undersecretary for Special Concerns and Official Development Assistance (ODA) Jerome V. Oliveros; DENR Undersecretary of Finance, Information Systems and Climate Change Atty. Analiza Rebuelta – Teh, CESO I; and FAO Representative in the Philippines Dr. Lionel Dabbadie,.

The Workshop aims to present project objectives, components, and discuss key issues and targets of the project. In addition, the workshop will provide opportunities to participants to share and contribute inputs on the project components, including emerging opportunities and challenges.

DA-BSWM attendees were led by Engr. Eduardo V. Alberto, Chief, Soil Conservation and Management Division (SCMD), and Ms. Jaqueline S. Rojales, Senior Agriculturist, Soil and Water Resources Research Division SWRRD).

The DA-BSWM Management headed by Director Gina P. Nilo and Assistant Director Denise A. Solano has been in full support of the objectives of the GEF projects.
