The Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Soils and Water Management (DA-BSWM), through the Agricultural Land Management and Evaluation Division (ALMED), recently held a Consultation Meeting focused on harmonizing and integrating SAFDZ into the CLUP.

This Meeting aimed to tackle the pressing issue of illicit land conversion and the swift pace of development, with agricultural lands being transformed into non-agricultural uses such as residential, institutional, commercial, and other infrastructure development. To address this, it was recommended to identify lands that are neither protected nor irrigated for potential reclassification. Additionally, it was advised that an application for land reclassification be submitted for the proposed land use changes.
Consultation meetings are vital for identifying areas that need preservation and ensuring that local government unit’s (LGU) plans align with long-term development goals, while harmonizing maps and zoning ordinances between local and national plans is essential for integrating LGU initiatives. This collaborative approach ensures the creation of sustainable, well-planned projects that protect environmental and natural resources while supporting progressive growth.

The said meeting was attended by two participants from LGU Lubao, Pampanga, three from LGU Camiling, Tarlac and ALMED Chief Ms. Jovette T. Almeda and Technical Staff.
