In accordance with its mandate of formulating and adopting national agricultural land use planning framework in order to guide Policy Makers and Local Government Units (LGUs) on appropriate land use allocation and land development through applications of sustainable agricultural land management principles and thereby ensure a secure and sustainable production base, the DA-Bureau of Soils and Water Management (BSWM) headed by Director Gina P. Nilo and Assistant Director Denise A. Solano, through the Agricultural Land Management and Evaluation Division (ALMED) headed by Mr. Bernardo B. Pascua, conducts a series of Town Hall Meetings/ Consultation Workshops titled “Harmonization and Integration of the Strategic Agriculture and Fisheries Development Zone (SAFDZ) into the Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP) for Sustainable Land Management.”

This series commenced on 30 April 2024 at the BSWM Lopez Convention Hall, and was participated in by representatives from the Department of Agriculture (DA) and other National Government Agencies (NGAs) nationwide. This was followed by the conduct of the activity on 3 May 2024 attended by representatives from the LGUs of CAR, Regions 1, 2, and 3, and on 8 May 2024 with attendees from Regions IV-A, IV-B, and V.

The activity specifically aimed to conduct participatory land use planning with the Local Government Units (LGUs) to incorporate the SAFDZ and mainstream SLM into the CLUP; identify the key development areas, and kinds of SLM interventions in the locality ranked according to importance and priorities; and harmonize policies to other mandates.

It is expected that this activty will produce the following Major Final Outputs: 100% National SAFDZ committee reactivated, sixteen (16) SAFDZ handbook, seven (7) public/stakeholders consultations conducted, 70% LGUs capacitated/provided technical assistance on SAFDZ and SLM, fifteen (15) SLM maps prepared (per ABFS sites CY 2023), and 100% technical inputs to policy recommendation

Meanwhile, succeeding schedules for this series are on 24 May 2024 for Regions VI, VII, VIII; 14 June 2024 for Regions IX, X, XIII, 26 June 2024 for Regions XI, XII, and 13-15 August 2024 in Ilocos Norte as the pilot province.

The BSWM Management has always been in support of the conduct of such activities for the benefit of the farmers and other stakeholders para sa masaganang Bagong Pilipinas.
