The Soils Survey Division (SSD) of the DA-Bureau of Soils and Water Management conducted a Training on Basic Mineral and Rock Identification. The activity aims to enhance skills of SSD staff in proper identification of minerals and rocks which is invaluable for characterizing parent materials that would influence soil resources assessment and mapping. This reskilling activity is also part of the Learning and Development plan of the Division necessary for the technical competencies in the implementation of soil resource information collection and management of the Bureau.
The Training took place at the SSD Conference area on February 06, 2024, providing the participants with full access to the SSD’s rock collection from various provinces across the country, and providing participants ample time to delve into the intricacies of mineral and rock identification.
The one-day Training was successfully conducted through a combination of Informative Lectures, Interactive Workshops, and Hands-on Mineral and Rock Identification led by Ms. Ma. Lourdes Stephanie V. Leido, a Senior Geologist, with the assistance from the technical staff, Ms. Armani Yula Estanislao and Mr. Edd Marc Reyes, from the Mines and Geosciences Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (MGB-DENR).
Participants gained valuable insights into the identification and classification of minerals and rocks, enriching their knowledge and practical expertise in the field of Geology.
