The DA-Bureau of Soils and Water Management (DA-BSWM) took part on the 1st Provincial Farmers Week of Iloilo City, with the theme “Mangunguma padayon nga edukaron, hugpungon kag pabaskugon para agrikultura mangin mainuswagon,” (Continue to educate, gather, and strengthen the farmers for progressive agriculture), last October 3 to 7, 2022 at Iloilo Capitol, Iloilo City.
The 5-day farmers’ week aims to strengthen the agricultural sector in the province and to address the gaps in farming and fisheries and to find solution to address the prevailing predicaments of Iloilo farmers and fisherfolks.
Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor, Jr., delivered his opening messaged on the said farmers’ week. In his message, Iloilo Governor emphasized that the provincial government will do all the best to unleash the best potential of the Iloilo province’ agriculture sector.
The said event started with the launching of the Agri-Fishery Trade Expo 2022 and a forum on solar irrigation projects and farm mechanization that will modernize the knowledge and skills of Iloilo farmers. Furthermore, DA-BSWM offered knowledge assistant on the different Bureau’s services including soil and water analysis in order to conserve soil and water resources and fight land degradation.
With the Provincial Ordinance 2018-190, every first week of October of every year, the Provincial Farmers’ Week will be celebrated in the province of Iloilo.
