Soil Conservation Month (SCM)

The Soil Conservation Month, observed every June of the year and spearheaded by the Bureau of Soils and Water Management (DA-BSWM), was created through the Department Order No. 2 series of 1997 by former Agriculture Secretary Salvador H. Escudero on May 21, 1997 and was further reiterated through Administrative Order No. 16 series of 2007 issued by the former Agriculture Secretary Arthur C. Yap. This event highlights the significance of soil conservation management in achieving sustainable agriculture and food security for the Filipino people. This year, the Soil Conservation Month will be celebrated with the theme, “Our lands, our rights. Land access to all.”

Desertification & Drought Day (DDD)

The Desertification and Drought Day (DDD) is observed every 17th of June. This was declared by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in 1995, promoting awareness of the issues and ways of combating desertification and drought globally. As one of the Country Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), the Philippines is encouraged to participate in this observance actively. This year, the DDD will be celebrated with the slogan: “Her Land. Her Rights.”
